Supermarket by Marcus Brown
Supermarket is a representation of the enslaved people that were sold at the luxurious St. Louis Hotel in New Orleans from 1838-1862. The St. Louis Hotel included a bank, ballroom, shopping arcade, trading exchange and slave market that sold thousands of enslaved people.
This exhibit is a part of a larger series titled Slavery Trails. Slavery Trails is a musically interactive site-specific augmented reality (AR) installation series based on slave ships and enslaved people, placed on historical sites throughout the United States. Slavery Trails is an effort to create a decentralized memorial to slavery in the United States. The site is now the Omni Royal Orleans hotel located at 621 St. Louis Street New Orleans, Louisiana 70130.
