Passage is an augmented reality (AR) installation that reimagines a slave ship docked at the Port of New Orleans, offering a powerful reflection on the Middle Passage and the brutal realities faced by African captives. Designed to educate and engage the public, the work brings to life the human toll of the transatlantic slave trade through immersive digital storytelling. At the heart of the installation is a ghostly AR vessel inspired by some of the earliest ships that arrived in Louisiana carrying enslaved Africans. Within it are sculptural representations of 200 individuals, each figure standing in for a life once stolen, silenced, and commodified. Still in development, Passage will ultimately be part of Slavery Trails—a nationwide series of site-specific AR artworks forming a decentralized memorial to slavery in the United States. The project seeks to restore visibility to the often-erased histories of the enslaved by placing their stories directly into public space.
Passage exhibit is presented by Grayline New Orleans at the Light House at the river 400 Toulouse St., New Orleans, LA 70130 United States of America.
The exhibit is viewable during the 9am-7pm daily while the light house is open.
